THE AREA - Winchmore Hill Green

Two train stops Northwards beyond Winchmore Hill (about 4 minutes) is Enfield Town, which has a large shopping complex.  Those interested in history and literature can also an explore Gentleman’s Row, a well- preserved historic street, where author- siblings Charles and Mary Lamb lived at No 17, Clarendon Cottage, in 1825-27 (google their tragic story!).
The Romantic poet, John Keats, went to Enfield Grammar School, later training as a surgeon before deciding that poetry was more suited to his temperament.

Opened 17 years ago, Regatta is a family run restaurant and has grown to be a monument in Winchmore Hill in its own right, and is one of London's oldest established Venetian Restaurants.

In addition,The Kings Head pub has an excellent restaurant, open for lunch and dinner.

Also on the Green, there is a coffee shop, 'Coffee Sense', and a traditional tea shop, 'Treacles', both of which serve light lunches.  'Treacles' cakes are highly recommended.  In Station Road, there is a well-regarded Fish restaurant, 'Sargasso Sea'. In nearby Green Lanes, you will find several Italian restaurants, as well as Chinese and Thai restaurants.

If you prefer to eat at home, just over the road from the Old Bakery there is an excellent deli which sells, fruit and vegetables, bread, cheeses and cold meats, as well as a good selection of groceries. A large supermarket (Sainsbury) is within five minutes' walk. On Sunday mornings, there is a Farmers' Market in nearby Palmers Green.
The Green also has a number of shops where you can buy gifts. There are several hairdressers and a Wellness Centre,  'The Green Room', where you can enjoy a relaxing aromatherapy massage .
'Winchmore Hill has a beautiful park, Grovelands, with two children's playgrounds, a lake, and a cafe (open during the summer only).  Winchmore Hill is a friendly and pleasant community.
